La maison
We put together two 4 bedroom apartments - 3500 square feet of living space.
We have two sons (7 & 5) - they each have their own bedroom, a computer room w/two computers, and a 450 square
foot play room. The master bedroom has a newly built master bath. The two sides of the apartment are joined by a newly constructed kitchen. One side is the family's three bedrooms, the boy's playroom and computer room. The other side, of the apartment, is a guest bedroom with bath, television room, the living room, and a computer room (with a treadmill) . All computers on broadband, satellite tv in the master bedroom and television room, several dvd players and more than 200 dvds. Four full baths, and a washer/dryer complete the apartment. Kitchen has a stove, microwave, toaster oven, no dishwasher, but all the other conveniences of home.
Summers in Beijing are hot, but each room has its own air conditioner.
Our housekeeper will clean the apartment, and be available for cooking. A driver, who speaks English, can be hired when needed.
A day camp, through the American Embassy, is available.

We live in the Eastern part of Beijing, just outside the Fourth Ring Road. Our apartment is in a complex of three buildings, with residents from Japan, Korea, Pakistan, and other nations. Shopping is very convenient, just outside the gate (of the buildings) is a Japanese department store, with a supermarket.
The complex, has a play area for small children, and outdoor exercise equipment for the adults.
Taxis are easy to obtain, and you will have no trouble negotiating your way to all the tourist sights of the city.
In an ever changing city, the neighborhood still retains some of the characteristics of old Beijing. The neighborhood, and the city of Beijing, are very safe.

An advantage of China - prices are reasonable.
Local restaurants where you can eat for less than $10.00 per person. Taxis, from one side of the city to the other, for $8.00. Shopping - we will point you to all the markets.
An advantage that we can offer - our business is exporting products, and every month we are sending a container to our warehouse in San Diego. If you purchase anything, from a bracelet to a piece of furniture, we would be glad to ship it for you.
Shop in China, and the savings will pay for your trip.
Our apartment is on the 24th floor, and our office is on the 17th floor, of the same building. Our staff all speak English, and will always be available to assist you. Whether it's making airplane reservations, taking you to the supermarket, or directing you to a restaurant or tourist site.

Lewis is an American, who came to Beijing in 1994. Maggie (Liu Yu Ping) was born in Beijing, and we have two sons, Jacob and Ari (who attend a Hebrew Day School in Beijing).
In 1996, Maggie and I started exporting cultural products of China (www.chinastarusa.com). Today we source and export a mix of many different giftware items.
In 2003 we opened our first restaurant. Today we own three (Italian, Mexican and American).
